Wimborne St Giles

Wimborne St Giles is the home of the Ashleys, Earls of Shaftesbury, who came to prominence after the Industrial Revolution when they were involved in bettering the conditions of labourers. The statue of Eros in Picadilly Circus, London is a monument to the 7th Earl of Shaftesbury, the ‘Philanthropic Earl’, and the arrow is aligned to this quaint East Dorset village.

Almshouses at Wimborne St Giles

The village boasts a classical church with a series of splendid family monuments and, facing the green, a row of beautiful 17th Century almshouses. A sculptured example of what is reputed to have been England`s first cabbage can be found on a tomb within the church!
