Places to visit

Witchampton

Tucked away between the river Allen and the gentle wooded hills, Witchampton has been described as “one of the most beautiful villages in the country”. The winding village street is flanked by timbered and thatched cottages with pretty gardens. To enter the village you cross the clear trout stream of the river Allen by means of a modern stone faced brick bridge, which sports the customary “transportation warning” issued by the County Clerk in days gone by.

Cottages at Witchampton

The nearby hamlet of Manswood contains what is claimed to be the longest single stretch of thatch in the country, the building, 120 yards long, covers 11 cottages and a former post office!
